The Planning Commission is responsible for advising the City Council with regard to the proper development of the City of Dexter. They are also responsible for the Capital Improvement Plan. The Commission has nine members appointed by the City Council upon the recommendation of the Mayor.
In 2017 the Planning Commission began its review of and update to the Master Plan. Please click the following link for more information on the 2017 Master Plan Update Project.
The City commissioned an update to the Downtown Dexter Parking Study, as a supplement to the comprehensive Master Plan update. The purpose of the study was to inventory existing parking and land uses; examine current parking standards; assess future parking needs; and provide alternatives for parking management.
The study determined there are currently more than 900 parking spaces in the downtown. The results of the parking survey indicate there is adequate parking provided in the overall downtown. Moreover, as parking spaces along Main Street and in the parking lots immediately adjacent to Main Street fill-up, there are other on-street parking spaces and public parking lots available, within a short walk.
