Dexter last comprehensively updated its Zoning Ordinance in 1995. Since that time, the Zoning Ordinance has been amended over sixty times, the Master Plan has been updated three times and the Village became a City. Recognizing that the Zoning Ordinance needed to be revised, the City began a comprehensive update in 2015. That update was put on hold in 2017 when it was determined that a Master Plan Update was a more urgent need. With the adoption of the revised Master Plan in November 2019, the Planning Commission and City Council are ready to return to the Zoning Ordinance Update.
The Zoning Ordinance Update Sub-Committee is a Planning Commission sub-committee and includes members of the City Council, Planning Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals.
